What is your home town?
Wichita Falls, TX
How long have you been doing triathlons, running or swimming?
What is your zodiac sign?
What is your favorite piece of training equipment?
Nothing can beat going out on a run in a new pair of running shoes.
If you were a t-shirt what color would you be and why?
Blue – for a number of reasons. I am a big Dallas Cowboy, Texas Rangers, and Duke Blue Devil fan, so I
would always be wearing my team colors and never out of style.
What is your nickname?
I really don’t have a nickname, but everyone always calls me “Coach” or “Coach Styles” mainly due to my requirements as Head Cross Country and Track Coach at Midwestern State University. GO MUSTANGS!!!
What is your favorite pre-race meal?
It is not just one particular meal but I always tend to have some sort of pasta with chicken and I will make sure I have desert. The best race I have ever ran and set a personal record (2006 NCAA National Cross Country Championships), I had a huge cookies and cream shake the night before. Sweets are my weakness.
What do you do to recover from a hard workout?
Some of my best days are hard workout days because we will always get them done early in the morning so we will have the whole day to be lazy. Recovery from a hard workout consists of binging on netflix and movies, after a good breakfast of eggs, bacon, chocolate milk, and a hot coffee. Unless it is a sunday long run, then it is cheering on America’s Team (Dallas Cowboys).
What is your favorite race?
I don’t necessarily have a favorite race as I just love to compete, but the National Cross Country Championships are always a true blessing to watch. Cross country is a great sport because it is the 10k runners vs 800m runners vs the steeplechasers all in one race.
